Hi, Coach Jeri here! Emotional support is a two-way street: giving kindness and encouragement to others is just as rewarding as receiving it, and it can transform both your mindset and relationships.

As we progress on our weight loss journey, we discover so much about ourselves—our strengths, our struggles, and the things that truly motivate us. For those of us who attend weekly meetings and engage in community forums, the support we give and receive is invaluable. We inspire one another, share advice, and offer comfort during tough times. Knowing that you've brightened someone’s day with a kind word or helpful insight is incredibly rewarding. Emotional support is truly a two-way street: giving it feels just as fulfilling as receiving it.

But let’s be honest—many of us have spent too much time under a pessimistic cloud, weighed down by self-doubt or negative thinking. Breaking free from that mindset starts with small, intentional changes. One of the most effective strategies is to keep a positivity journal. At the end of each day, jot down a few positive things you did for yourself. Maybe it’s sticking to your food plan, getting in a good workout, or simply smiling at a stranger. By focusing on the positive, you train your mind to shift away from negativity. Over time, this practice can transform the way you see yourself and the world around you.

When you begin to see the good in yourself, it becomes easier to spread kindness to others. You’ll naturally want to share that positivity—whether it’s through a kind word, an unexpected gesture, or just being a listening ear. The beauty of kindness is that it’s contagious. The more you give, the more you receive, and the better you feel. It’s also an excellent distraction from overeating or turning to food for comfort.

When you’re out and about, look for small ways to make someone’s day brighter. Hold the door open, compliment someone’s outfit, or simply send an encouraging emoji to a friend. These little acts of kindness can have a ripple effect. Not only do they uplift others, but they also make you feel more connected and less isolated. Building better relationships is a win-win—it benefits you and those around you.

Tips for Spreading Positivity:

Here’s a fun challenge: think of the friendliest person you know. What is it about them that draws people in? Try to emulate those qualities in your own interactions. You’ll find that being a genuinely friendly person not only brings joy to others but also makes you feel happier and more fulfilled.

The Power of Community

One of the greatest gifts of being part of a supportive community is learning from one another. When we see others succeed, it motivates us to keep going. And when we share our victories—no matter how small—we inspire others to do the same. Attending meetings, listening, and sharing stories remind us that we’re never alone on this journey. A food plan is just one piece of the puzzle; the emotional support and camaraderie of the group are what truly create lasting success.

As we head into the holiday season, let’s focus on the joy of giving—whether it’s your time, your friendship, or a simple gesture of kindness. Celebrate the people around you, and remember that every act of support strengthens not only your journey but the journeys of others. Together, we can achieve so much more than we could alone.

Here’s to a season of giving, growing, and glowing. Let’s make it a time to thrive—not just survive. You’ve got this!
