Keeping Keto Q&A with Genien

Hi Friends!

Earlier this week, our brand ambassador and keto guru, Genien, did an Instagram takeover (follow us HERE!). She hosted a casual Keeping Keto Q&A, which ended up being a smashing success! We thought it’d be helpful to go ahead and share that dialogue.

Keeping Keto is a high-fat, very low-carb diet that focuses on drastically reducing carbs that are absorbed by the body and replacing them with fat in order to lower blood sugar and shift your metabolism away from carbs and towards fat and ketones. If you’re interested in trying this weight-loss plan, we highly recommend Genien’s conversation, below!

Did you get the keto flu?

No! Thank goodness! I’ve heard horrible stories.

How long did it take you to adjust to Keto’s restrictions?

I started this weight loss plan at the end of July, beginning of August. When I first started Keto, I was totally against it. I used to be on Sugar Smart. After a few weeks I completely fell in love with it. I loved all of the healthy alternatives to common meals. It was so fun to get creative with my substitutes- like breads and rice. I never really felt deprived or hungry- which was great because that was a huge fear going into it!

How did you start tracking everything?

Well again, I actually started on Sugar Smart. Which I think is a great plan for most people. I’ve seen huge successes from others. I just got so bad/ forgetful in the actual tracking. I didn’t really love the same routine of meals that I was making. I knew the general nutritional facts about my meals, so I didn’t make myself track. So… needless to say, I started off very slow! With me, no matter what plan I’m on- I have to be tracking. It’s so easy for me to overeat if I’m not tracking.

Newbie here! Can you just explain the Keto Diet in your own words?

In just a few words, keto diet is a low carb high fat diet. This guide is really helpful!

What are your favorite bread, rice, or pasta substitutes?

My favorite keto bread substitute is natural ovens keto friendly bread it tastes delicious and is zero carbs! Low carb tortillas are awesome too! For pasta substitute I like zoodles spaghetti squash Or hearts of palm pasta and riced cauliflower or riced broccoli is great as a rice substitute.

I’m interested in going keto in the new year, do you have any tips for a first timer?

Tips for newbies starting keto keep it simple the first couple weeks choose a protein and a veggie track everything and drink plenty of water in the beginning it’s hard to know what is keto and not keto so keeping it simple is best and track everything.

Favorite family- friendly Keto dinner recipe?

My favorite family friendly keto meal is my caprese chicken bake! Not only is it delicious it’s so simple to make! If you click HERE you can see this recipe on my Instagram page. My family and I love any sort of baked chicken actually!
